Recommend Me a Book… with Kendare Blake

If you’re following my blog you’ll know that I am hosting some of my authorly friends and authors whose books I love and want to recommend to YOU (if you haven’t read it,yet!)

So I’m having an author tell us what they like to read, wish they could write, and what they have loved recently! AND at the end I’ll be giving away a mystery box of books that I am recommending to you!

So far we’ve had Carrie Ryan, Cassandra Clare, Kami Garcia, Suzanne Young and Victoria Schwab. Go back and comment on the previous posts and tell us what you think of their recommendations. Have you read them? Want to read them? What do you recommend?

Today I have the awesome debut author, Kendare Blake who’s upcoming ANNA DRESSED IN BLOOD needs to be on everyone’s lists. For one, it’s creeptastic featuring the most bad ass ghost you’ll ever read about. Secondly, the boy Cas… *swoons* nuff said. Thirdly, there’s action and romance and adventure that both girls and boys will devour in one sitting. Promise!

So I’m recommending you ANNA DRESSED IN BLOOD and probably anything else Kendare ever writes but check out below what she has to recommend!

 

 

Q: What kind of books do you like reading? Do you read in your genre?
I like reading all books. And usually a few types at a time, like juggling a philosophy book with a YA. I love philosophical literary. I love books that push. Deep dark secret, I never really read YA until after I wrote Anna Dressed in Blood.
Q: What book do you wish you had written?
The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley or the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. How fracking brilliant were they? Of course I would also have loved to write The Unbearable Lightness of Being, but let’s not be completely ridiculous.
Q: What is one genre or topic you wish you could write?I write mostly what I wish because that’s all that seems to come out right. But I do wish I could channel Milan Kundera sometimes. And I’d love to have Caitlin R Kiernan’s mastery of language and style.
Q: What books do you recommend?

If you like dark, strange fantasy, I recommend Caitlin R Kiernan. Start with the short stuff, perhaps a collection like To Charles Fort, With Love and work your way up. Holly Black’s collection The Poison Eaters, is mind-blowingly fantastic. Anything by Bret Easton Ellis will make you make scrunchy face but you’ll keep reading. Ty Roth’s So Shelly is just plain melancholy beauty. So, so many others.

    Anna Dressed In Blood is on my TBR list… I remember Vania tweeting about it, so I immediately added it. The Poison Eaters is also on my TBR list.
    Can’t wait to read Anna Dressed In Blood… love a good, creeptastic story!

    I just got an ARC of Anna Dressed in Blood. Can’t wait to read it. It looks super spooky and I love that kind of book. I also love Holly Black but haven’t read The Poison Eaters yet. Will have to move it to the top of my stack. Thanks for the recommendations!

    It seems like they’re all creepy-ish books. Definitely not my preferred genre/mood, but it’s interesting to see how many different people have different book preferences.

    I so want to read “Anna Dressed in Blood”!! And how did I not know Holly Black wrote a book names Poison Eaters??!! And I agree with Grace, “The Replacement” by Brenna Yavanoff is so good!
