Recommend Me a Book… with Kami Garcia

I find myself constantly asking online what everyone is reading what they like or don’t like. I nag trusted friends for recommendations and I love hearing what book are loved out there. So I asked some of my authorly friends and authors whose books I love and want to recommend to YOU (if you haven’t read it,yet!)

So each day this week I’m having an author tell us what they like to read, wish they could write, and what they have loved recently! AND at the end I’ll be giving away a mystery box of books that I am recommending to you!

Yesterday I had Carrie Ryan and today I am featuring two authors (author #2 to come later today) since I had crazy pants day yesterday.

I don’t know how many of you have read Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl‘s series. the Caster Chronicles, which includes BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS and the upcoming BEAUTIFUL CHAOS. And not to forget the upcoming e-book DREAM DARK.

There’s much I can say about Kami and Margie’s books but I’ll spare you my endless raving to a few things that you need to know.The Caster Chronicles series isn’t your typical paranormal romance mostly because the reader will have a romance of their own with the lush southern setting, the twisty plot, and the utterly complex characters.

So, I wanted to find out from Kami what she wishes she could write and what she recommends to you. What I love about Kami is that since she comes from a teaching background she ALWAYS throws in great classic recommendations. Q: What kind of books do you like reading? Do you read in your genre?

I love fantasy (especially urban fantasy), science fiction, folklore, non-fiction, poetry, and some contemporary. I will really read anything if the story is amazing or the topic is interesting.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

 

Q: What is one genre or topic you wish you could write?

Contemporary, because it seems hard.

    I feel so deprived in my life because I’ve yet to actually read The Outsiders, Carrie, and Fahrenheight 451. I could literally kick my own bum for that brain fart. Actually there are more from the list that I haven’t read and feel so stupid for it. Please rectify my own stupidity for me, PLEASE

    I’ve read Beautiful Creatures & Beautiful Darkness and really liked them both. Am eagerly waiting for Dream Dark & Beautiful Chaos. As far as the books Kami recommended, From Bad to Cursed is the only one I haven’t heard of. I’ll add it to my list. Thanks for the recommendation!

    I’ve only read Beautiful Creatures, and I liked it enough to read the second one… which I haven’t had the chance to get yet. I do like the books Kami recommended, even the classics.

    LOVE The Castor Chronicles, but I also love To Kill a Mockingbird which is my all time favorite! All the “Bo Radley” references just make me smile in her books! Great recommendations!

    I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed reading Beautiful Creatures and Beautiful Darkness. I can’t wait for Beautiful Chaos and Dream Dark. Margaret Stohl and Kami Garcia are truely talented and I enjoyed escaping reality and divulging myself into their books! All of Kami’s recommendations are on my TBR list!     The Near Witch again – I think I need to read this book since I’m hearing about it so much! Funny that she considers The Giver a classic now, but I guess it is. That was my first book that started my love of YA dystopian though!
